Dr. Figueiró, recognized as a social entrepreneur and change-maker by Ashoka, dedicated his career to the field of early childhood development. He collaborated with organizations such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, leading innovative projects that have received international recognition. Figueiró’s expertise and leadership positioned him as a global advocate for child health, participating in influential forums and contributing to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Within Brazil, Figueiró was instrumental in advancing initiatives and organizations focused on early childhood, including leading the Zero to Six Institute and presiding over the National Forum on Early Childhood. He has actively engaged with various government ministries, providing consultation, and collaborating on national strategies related to culture, health, and education.
Figueiró’s commitment to promoting the well-being of children was driven by his belief that their rights, as stated in the Brazilian Constitution, should be prioritized, and implemented by society and the government. Throughout his career, he emphasized the importance of scientific knowledge and evidence-based policies in fostering individual and societal health, ethics, and the reduction of violence.
Until his passing in 2017, he held the position of Scientific Director at Instituto Zero a Seis.
